Why is Your Resume Important?

Research has shown that your Résumé will probably get only a couple of seconds of a busy employer's time - perhaps a minute if you're really lucky!!

Your Résumé performs several important functions for you in your career transition or job search. It represents you when you can't be there, both before and after any interview. It helps interviewers know about you, lets them know what you have done, what you think you can do and what you think is important. Perhaps its most important function is getting you an interview in the first place.

Your Résumé is a self-marketing tool. It should market your relevant skills, knowledge, and accomplishments. The information in it has to be targeted concisely to a career field (Function) and address the needs of a specific employer (Industry).

Being able to catalog your accomplishments relevant to someone else's need is not an easy task. After all, it's difficult enough to distill your life into a one- or two-page document further condensing that document into four or five key points might seem next to impossible.

The time and money spent to write a good Résumé is time well spent. The sooner you decide to put your best offerings on your Résumé, the better the chance you'll make an immediate impact on interviewers and nudge them to read on.
One has to craft one's Résumé, so the 10, 20 or 30 seconds of attention your Résumé initially receives will turn into minutes, a job interview, and then finally the job itself.
